IKYU @ Tiong Bahru

Loving the raw, industrial look in IKYU, a modern japanese restaurant located opposite Forty Hands. This little lane (Yong Siak Street) houses other heavyweights like Open Door Policy, Plain Vanilla, and Cheng Delicacies.

Spring Salmon Roll

Sashimi: Salmon, Tuna, Swordfish

IKYU Bara Chiraishi with Agemono. We had chicken karaage that day.

Daily Robata Grill (this was Salmon Cheek) with Agemono

Matcha, and goma Icecream with tea and coffee

The $28++ set lunch is a steal but portions are, understandably, not very big. The most memorable parts of the meal were definitely the sashimi (from the ala carte menu, reasonably thick cuts and the flavours were clean and fresh), dad’s grilled salmon head (the flesh was unbelievably soft and creamy! But be careful with the bones), the sushi rice of my chiraishi and my goma ice cream.

Service was friendly yet respectful. We walked in without a reservation on a Sunday but Dad says the place is packed on weekdays. I guess the chic setting makes it the perfect place for a business lunch.
